Belotero is arguably the best dermal filler for under eye and tear trough hollowing. The skin is particularly thin in this area, which does not leave much room for forgiveness. Because of Belotero’s very small particle size, it blends smoothly and integrates with the skin beautifully. Thus, the chance of lumps is greatly reduced. There is also less swelling and no blue-ish Tyndall effect that can be sometimes seen with other HA dermal fillers.

When performed using a blunt tip micro-cannula, the risk of bruising is very low and most patients are able to leave the office and go about their day without anyone knowing they had a procedure done. Because there is less movement in this area, results generally last over a year in  most patients.

We often see patient who’s eye bags or eye circles are not caused by tear trough hollowing.  The upper or medial cheek fat pad has slipped down and/or lost volume, causing what appears to be an under eye issue. Restoring structure and support in this area with large particle cheek filler such as Restylane Lyft will help resolve the issue.

Sometimes patients will present with a mix of both tear trough hollowing and mid-face volume loss. In these cases both treatments are needed for satisfactory correction.

⇑⇑⇑  This patients under eye circles were greatly improved using 1ml of Belotero via mirco-cannula technique.  Being in her 50’s, adding Restylane Lyft for mid-face support due to age related volume loss would  make this result near perfect but this patient was satisfied with the result of the Belotero alone.

⇑⇑⇑  First Patient:  2mls of Restylane Lyft was used to support upper and mid cheek structure.  This can happen through the aging process and/or weight loss. This case is not a tear trough issue.  Notice there is no hollowing directly under the eye. The ‘groove’ under the eye is due to midface volume loss.

⇑⇑⇑  Certain genetics can predispose even our younger patients with darkening under the eyes. Dr Gallo used 1 ml of Belotero for this patient via the micro-cannula technique. No bruising, minimal swelling and much less risk. This photo was taken immediately after and the filler will settle in nicely over the next 2 weeks to mask the darkness even more.

The cheek issue needs to be resolved first, then if still needed a little filler can go into the tear trough. Restylane Lyft was used for the cheek area and Belotero for the tear troughs.
